(IDEX Online) - A New York designer is producing the ultimate in personalized jewelry by cutting rough diamonds into letters. They've overcome technical challenges to produce custom-cut Alphabet Diamonds - each weighing between 0.25-ct and 0.50-ct, with a platinum setting and hung on a 14-karat yellow gold chain.K Kane puts the emphasis on personalized jewelry. Customers can choose anything from a single initial to a 15-letter name.Smaller diamonds (0.25-ct to 0.30-ct) cost $2,400 each. Larger diamonds (0.50-cts) are $3,800 each.Founder and designer Katherine Kane said: "We start by looking for the right rough diamonds, which have to be a very specific shape to accommodate the letter cutting. Then the roughs have to be carefully examined to see which letter they are best suited for."
