Reliability GE Transportation introduced the Digital Minesuite of technologies to assist miners in improving performance, reliability and safer mine operations, in line with the mining industry’songoing focus on miner safety and productivity.

GE South Africa country CEO and transport business executive Thomas Konditi says GE has been “assertively reimagining” how industrial companies, including many of its own companies within GE, operate plants and deliver production using data.

He says the aim of the GE Digital Mine team is to collaborate with GE clients to identify specific issues and develop strategies that integrate, automate and enhance client operations by providing real-time, data-driven insights using the Digital Mine suite of technologies.

GE Transportation is committed to the key focus areas of surface propulsion systems and underground mining equipment that use alternating current power supplies, and deliver industrial Internet solutions. These focus areas empower GE’s Digital Mine through asset and operations performance management and safer mine operation, which are undertaken through GE’s collision-avoidance and drill-guidance systems for surface and underground applications.

The intelligent real-time monitoring across the mine enables operators to make data-driven decisions that improve equipment reliability and enhance mine operations. Such systems combine machine sensors, connectivity, data capture, visualisation and analytics to support the management of an asset’s life cycle from pit to port.
