(IDEX Online) - Dominion Diamond Mines and De Beers are both looking to expand their current projects in Canada. The two companies have submitted applications to the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board requesting permission to ramp up their exploration activities, according to nnsl.com

Dominion has requested a five-year license to explore the area around Glowworm Lake, which lies to the east of the Ekati Diamond Mine. Dominion hopes to find additional resources to extend Ekati's mine life.

The miner's submission also included the possibility of constructing its own winter road, which would run off from the main Tibbitt to Contwoyto Winter Road.

De Beers also notified the board that it intends to start exploration activities in the hopes of extending the life of the Gahcho Kue mine.
