Stimulus Hopes Boost Asia; Europe Braces For Brexit Vote

It was a strong finish in Asia, after Chinese regulators promised supportive monetary policy -- including possible tax cuts and increased infrastructure spending -- following a recent string of weak economic data, though a report today showed new loans came in higher than expected last month. While China's Shanghai Composite surged 1.4%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng jumped 2%, South Korea's Kospi rose 1.6%, and Japan's Nikkei reopened after the long holiday weekend with a 1% gain.

European markets are mixed at midday with all eyes on today's key Brexit vote, which will occur at 2 p.m. ET. Traders are also parsing a dismal reading on Germany's gross domestic product (GDP), which showed the economy grew last year at its slowest pace since 2013. At last check, the German DAX is down 0.2%, the French CAC 40 is up 0.1%, and London's FTSE 100 is 0.02% higher.
