East Asian stainless steel market quiet amid sparse bids and offers

Import prices for stainless steel in East Asia moved up over the past week in the absence of low offers from certain mills, although trading activity remained muted amid soft demand due to the year-end holiday season.

Fastmarkets MB's import price assessment for 304 stainless 2mm trimmed cold-rolled coil in East Asia was $1,900-1,960 per tonne cif for the week ended Wednesday December 26, up $30-40 per tonne from a week earlier.Fastmarkets MB's import price assessment for 304 stainless trimmed hot-rolled coil in the same region was $1,805-1,835 per tonne cif for the same period, up $65-85 per tonne week on week.No bookings in the spot market were reported due to thin buying interest, and many participants had exited the market for the year-end...
