East Asian stainless steel prices fall on weak demand, trading slowdown

Import prices for stainless steel in East Asia declined over the past week, resuming a previous downtrend amid sluggish trading activity, soft demand and lower offers from suppliers trying to secure more orders.

Fastmarkets MB's import price assessment for 304 stainless 2mm trimmed cold-rolled coil in East Asia was $1,900-1,970 per tonne cif for the week ended Wednesday December 12, down $10-20 per tonne from a week earlier.Fastmarkets MB's import price assessment for 304 stainless trimmed hot-rolled coil in the same region was $1,790-1,860 per tonne cif for the same period, widening downward by $40 per tonne from $1,830-1,860 per tonne cif a week earlier.Previously, both prices had fallen continually over a month before edging up a week earlier as a result of a rebound...
