EC amends safeguard measures on HDG for automotive sector

The European Commission (EC) has backtracked on an end-use monitoring procedure which was applied as part of its safeguard measures on imports of hot-dipped galvanized coil (HDG) destined for the automotive industry, it said on Wednesday January 15.

The HDG safeguard was among a raft of such measures that concerned 26 steel product categories, with any imports that exceeded a specific quota becoming subject to duty at 25%.
In the definitive measures for metallic-coated sheets (product category 4), the EC split the product category into two sub-categories, 4A and 4B, with the automotive sector mainly consuming material from the latter group.
