EC delays decision on Ilva sale until May 23

Competition regulators in the European Union have again postponed a decision on the sale of Italian steelmaker Ilva until May 23 this year, a spokesman for the European Commission (EC) confirmed to Metal Bulletin on Monday March 19.

The decision was postponed because the EU authorities must review new commitments submitted on March 15 by the intended purchaser, AM Investco Italy, a consortium led by ArcelorMittal."We have submitted a proposed remedy package to the [European] Commission which we hope will satisfy any competition concerns it has about our acquisition of Ilva," a spokesman for ArcelorMittal said."We understand that this remedy package will now be subject...
