EC may impose safeguard measures on steel imports from July

The European Commission (EC) may impose preliminary measures in its safeguard case into imported steel products as early as July this year, market sources have told Metal Bulletin.

The full investigation, however, will take as long as nine months to complete."The Commission has nine months to decide whether safeguard measures will be necessary. [But] this decision could be taken much earlier in the proceedings, if the investigation confirms the need for swift action," an EC spokesman said.The EC opened a safeguard investigation into 26 steel products on March 26 in an attempt to prevent the redirection...
