Elkem opens new silicone production workshop in China for NEVs

Norway-based silicon and ferro-silicon producer Elkem has opened a new production workshop in Shanghai, China to manufacture specialized silicones for hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs), the company said on Wednesday November 2.

Silicones are high-performance polymers made up of silicon, oxygen and other elements that can include carbon and hydrogen. They are used in the assembly, electrical integrity and protection of critical parts in cars, playing an important role in electric vehicles due to its high temperature resistance.
With this move, world's fourth largest producer of silicon metal is positioning to supply advanced battery materials to the battery industry and EV.
