West Texas Intermediate crude for May delivery gained nine cents to $68.38 on the New York Merc, while Brent for June gained 28 cents to $74.06 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $16.65 to WTI ($51.73), unchanged. Natural gas for May gained eight cents to $2.74. The TSX energy index lost 1.25 points to 195.97.
Crescent Point Energy Corp. (CPG) gained six cents to $10.79 on 10.22 million shares, after the proxy firm ISS (Institutional Shareholder Services) declared some support for Crescent Point's tiny dissident shareholder, Cation Capital. The dissident group holds a combined 0.3 per cent of the company's 546 million shares. ISS recommends voting for two (out of the four) dissident nominees: Dallas Howe and Herbert Pinder. Mr. Howe, 73, is the former chairman of Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan. He was also a director of the grain-handling company Viterra. Mr. Pinder, 71, is a director of Montney producer ARC Resources Ltd. (ARX: $14.01) and the chairman of a private Saskatchewan company called Astra Oil.
