West Texas Intermediate crude for March delivery lost 10 cents to $65.51 on the New York Merc, while Brent for March lost 11 cents to $70.42 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $26.75 to WTI ($38.76), unchanged. Natural gas for February lost six cents to $3.45. The TSX energy index fell two points to 194.77.
Australia- and Indonesia-focused Jadestone Energy Inc. (JSE), usually a thin trader, lost one cent to 40 cents on 7.71 million shares. This volume included a 7.12-million-share cross at 40.5 cents by BMO Nesbitt Burns. In the B.C. Montney, Painted Pony Energy Ltd. (PONY) gained 15 cents to $2.35 on 9.08 million shares. This volume included 2.68 million shares crossed by Cormark Securities at prices ranging from $2.23 to $2.30. While on the subject of ponies, a dog and pony show began yesterday in Whistler. It is CIBC's annual conference for institutional investors, and it will go on until tomorrow. Among the oil and gas presenters so far were Rob Peabody of Husky Energy Inc. (HSE: $18.30), Myron Stadnyk of ARC Resources Ltd. (ARX: $13.97), Jonathan Wright of NuVista Energy Ltd. (NVA: $9.01) and Brian Schmidt of Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd. (TVE: $2.94). Today, their companies' share prices each moved by less than 2 per cent.
