Eric Clapton's Gold Rolex set to Fetch over $1.6m

(IDEX Online) - A Rolex watch that belonged to British rock icon Eric Clapton is expected to fetch at least $1.6m at auction.The gold Daytona (pictured), known as the Crazy Doc (reference 6239) leads The Geneva Watch Auction: XV by Phillips in association with Bacs & Russo.Clapton, 76, bought the watch in Italy in 1990 and went on to sell it at auction in 2003.Other highlights of the sale, to be held on 7 and 8 May, are a Patek Philippe pink gold (reference 1518) with a pink dial ($1.29m to $2.58m) and a rare stainless steel Patek Philippe (reference 1503) that was owned by the late Holocaust survivor and Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal with an estimate of $269,000 to $538,000.Philllips said its watches department achieved an annual total of $209.3m last year and sold 100% of lots across all sale locations.
