EU CARMAKER CLOSURES 08/06: Further UK restarts tempered by sector cuts jobs

Honda and Nissan will restart operations at their respective UK facilities today following pandemic related shutdowns, the companies said on Monday June 8.

Honda will restart production at its Swindon site over the week commencing June 8, where there will be a staggered return with all shifts returning. New safety measures will be introduced, including temperature checks, staggering of shifts and social distancing measures in production areas where possible.
Honda confirmed it had restarted its European operations on May 13. All of its UK and European production had been suspended on March 18.
Nissan is expected to begin a phased restart for vehicle production from June 8 after it paused its UK operations on March 17. Some pilot activity restarted on the weekend of April 25 in the castings and machining shops at the Sunderland plant, while it restarted its European production at the end of April and early May.
