EU GREEN STEELMAKING: ArcelorMittal Europe 'to offer green steel by year-end'

ArcelorMittal Europe has announced details of the CO2 technology strategy that will enable it to offer its first 'green steel' solutions to customers this year, the company said on Tuesday October 13.

A two-pronged approach to CO2 technology will enable it to offer 30,000 tonnes of green steel in 2020, which will be scaled up to 120,000 tonnes in 2021 and 600,000 tonnes by 2022, the company said.
"Our plans to offer greener and more [recyclable] steel will support our customers in their circular economy objectives," Aditya Mittal, president and chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal Europe, said.
"We are pleased to be able to offer our first green tonnes this year," he added, "and look forward to being able to provide customers with larger volumes of this steel when our decarbonization projects are ramped-up and rolled out across Europe."
Customers will be able to buy green steel, based on verified emissions compared with a 2018 baseline, via a system the company has developed which measures the CO2 emissions savings made by its decarbonization projects.
