EU GREEN STEELMAKING: Liberty Ostrava to reduce emissions with two hybrid furnaces

Liberty Ostrava, part of the Liberty Steel Group, will install two hybrid furnaces at its integrated steel mill in the Czech Republic as part of the company's Greensteel plan to become carbon-neutral by 2030, it said on Thursday August 20.

It has received approval from the country's ministry of environment for its Environmental Impact Assessment of the implementation of new low-carbon technologies through the use of two hybrid furnaces, which Liberty said will be the first of their kind in Europe.

The modern hybrid technology, which will replace the existing four tandem furnaces by the end of 2022, will have a significantly lower environmental footprint, Liberty said, reducing carbon emissions by more than 50%...
