European domestic prices for heavy steel plate moved upward slightly in the week to Wednesday November 17, supported by healthy demand, sources have told Fastmarkets.
Some Italian re-rollers said that prices would continue to increase due to an expected steel slab price rise. Buyers, however, questioned the validity of such claims.
At the beginning of November,
domestic plate prices had already jumped by ?,?70-100 ($79-114) per tonne, reflecting offers and some transactions heard in the market. The increase was
followed by a relatively small price decline of about ?,?10-20 per tonne in the second week of the month.
Rising energy costs across Europe triggered the heavy plate price rise.
