EUROPE HDG: Domestic prices stable in north; down in south

Domestic prices for hot-dipped galvanized coil were fairly stable in Northern Europe in the week to Wednesday August 5 despite falling import offers, sources have told Fastmarkets.

In Southern Europe, however, prices declined due to seasonally weaker demand, cheaper import offers and increased availability, according to market participants.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel hot-dipped galvanized coil, domestic, exw Northern Europe, was ?,?1,300-1,345 ($1,541-1,595) per tonne on August 4, compared with ?,?1,300-1,350 per tonne a week earlier.
The assessment was based on achievable prices heard in the market.
"The market is very quiet, so spot [coil] products are being offered from many sources and with a wide spread of prices," a Northern European distributor said.
