EUROPE HRC: Buyers expect short-term price rise in January

European buyers expected that domestic hot-rolled coil prices would continue to rise in January and in the rest of the first quarter, due to good order books at domestic mills and a lack of competitive imports, sources told Fastmarkets on Thursday January 7.

During the first week of January, however, domestic prices have remained fairly stable in a seasonally slow market.
Fastmarkets calculated its daily steel hot-rolled coil index, domestic, exw Northern Europe, at ?,?667.00 ($821.30) per tonne on Thursday, up by just ?,?0.33 per tonne from ?,?666.67 per tonne on Wednesday.
The index was up by ?,?2.00 per tonne week on week and by ?,?90.33 per tonne month on month.
The index calculation was based on achievable prices heard at ?,?650-700 per tonne ex-works.
