EUROPE HRC: Domestic prices jump on tight supply, strong demand

Domestic prices for steel hot-rolled coil in Europe substantially increased day on day on Thursday March 11, due to a shortage of material combined with good demand, sources have told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets calculated its daily steel hot-rolled coil index, domestic, exw Northern Europe, at ?,?791.79 ($940.79) per tonne on Thursday, up by ?,?29.29 per tonne from ?,?762.50 per tonne on March 10.
The index was also up by ?,?41.79 per tonne week on week and by ?,?74.79 per tonne month on month.
The calculation of Thursday's index was based on transactions and achievable prices heard at ?,?780-800 per tonne ex-works.
In Southern Europe, Italian producers were reported to be trading HRC at ?,?770-780 per tonne ex-works.
