EUROPE HRC: Domestic prices move up, mills to seek further rises

Domestic prices for hot-rolled coil increased over the week to Wednesday August 12 in Northern and Southern Europe, despite the seasonal market slowdown, sources have told Fastmarkets.

Steelmakers have been seeking to achieve further price rises, according to market participants.
Fastmarkets' daily steel hot-rolled coil index, domestic, exw Northern Europe, was calculated at ?,?417.27 ($490.54) per tonne on Wednesday, up by ?,?2.27 per tonne from ?,?415 per tonne on Tuesday. The index was also up by ?,?3.10 per tonne week on week and by ?,?14.14 per tonne month on month.
Wednesday's index was based on deals heard at ?,?415-420 per tonne ex-works and "workable" prices reported at ?,?410-420 per tonne ex-works.
