EUROPE HRC: Domestic prices rise on shortage of material, global higher trend

Domestic transaction prices for hot-rolled coil increased substantially across Europe in the week to Wednesday December 23 due to a shortage of material in the market, sources told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets calculated its daily steel hot-rolled coil index, domestic, exw Northern Europe at ?,?665.00 ($811.65) per tonne on Wednesday December 23, unchanged day on day.
The index was, however, up by ?,?19 per tonne week on week and by ?,?122 per tonne month on month.
The latest assessment was based on market participants' estimates of achievable prices as well as deals heard at ?,?650-670 per tonne ex-works.
Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel HRC, domestic, exw Southern Europe was ?,?640-660 per tonne on December 23, up by ?,?20-40 per tonne from ?,?600-640 per tonne on December 16.
