EUROPE HRC: Material shortage, high demand drive up domestic prices

Domestic prices for hot-rolled coil (HRC) in Europe continued to rise on Friday April 23, due to a persistent shortage of locally produced material, limited and costly overseas alternatives and strong demand, sources told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets calculated its daily steel hot-rolled coil index, domestic, exw Northern Europe at ?,?971.25 ($1,168.26) per tonne on April 23, up by ?,?6.25 per tonne from ?,?965.00 per tonne on April 22.
The index was also up by ?,?45 per tonne week on week and by ?,?162.92 per tonne month on month.
