EUROPE HRC: Producers seek price rises but buyers show caution

European steelmakers have pushed up their domestic prices for hot-rolled coil, but buyers were holding back from making new deals, sources told Fastmarkets on Thursday January 28.

Fastmarkets calculated its daily steel hot-rolled coil index, domestic, exw Northern Europe, at ?,?711.00 ($862.20) per tonne on Thursday, up by ?,?2.25 per tonne from ?,?708.75 per tonne on January 27.This was a rebound of the index to the value it had on Tuesday this week. The index was, however, down by ?,?2.00 per tonne week on week, but up by ?,?46.00 per tonne month on month.The calculation of Thursday's index was based on achievable prices and transactions heard at ?,?700-720 per tonne ex-works.In Southern Europe, Italian mills have been offering HRC at ?,?700-710 per tonne ex-works, but market sources estimated achievable prices at ?,?700 per tonne ex-works.On Tuesday, ArcelorMittal increased its offers of HRC to...
