EUROPE PLATE: Domestic prices inch up despite low demand

Domestic prices for heavy steel plate in the EU have moved up over the week to Wednesday September 30, despite trading activity remaining slow, market sources have said.

Price recovery was supported by higher slab costs and a positive trend in the market for steel coil.
Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel domestic plate, 8-40mm, exw Southern Europe, was ?,?480-490 ($562-574) per tonne on September 30, compared with ?,?470-490 per tonne a week earlier.

The assessment reflected "workable" prices and deals heard in the domestic market, while official offers have been reported as high as ?,?500-520 per tonne...
