EUROPE PLATE: Producers seek price rises despite limited demand

European producers of heavy steel plate have been looking for a domestic price rise despite the fact that supply has been exceeding demand, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday December 2.

Official offers for domestic heavy plate from Italian re-rollers were heard at ?,?550 ($660) per tonne ex-works, and producers were expected to push offers further upward in their attempt to compensate for the rising cost of slab feedstock.
"We will increase [our prices] much more next week due to slab prices that could settle at $570 per tonne cfr," an Italian re-roller said.
