EUROPE REBAR: Prices dip in south amid lockdown fears

Domestic steel rebar prices in south Europe dipped slightly due to slower buying amid lockdown fears, yet prices widened upward in the north on bullish offers from mills, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday October 28.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar), domestic, delivered southern Europe was ?,?445-450 ($526-532) per tonne on Wednesday, down by ?,?5-10 per tonne from ?,?450-460 per tonne delivered seven days before.
In Italy, buying was reported to have scaled down because most buyers were in wait-and-see mode amid new lockdown fears, sources said.
Consequently, rebar in Italy was trading at ?,?405-410 per tonne ex-works, down by ?,?5-10 week on week - equivalent to about ?,?445-450 per tonne delivered.
"The market is quite flat and this week the price has lost ?,?5 per tonne," one trader said.
