EUROPE REBAR: Prices flat in quiet market

Prices for steel rebar in Europe remained broadly stable over the past week, while trading in most markets remained slow, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday April 15.

Last week, Italy extended its lockdown until May 3, leaving steel off the list of the "essential" industries allowed to continue operations.
Nonetheless, some Italian steelmakers were still operating, having restarted production after being granted permission by their local authorities.
"Last week, Beltrame and Pititni restarted operations, [and] this week Feralpi also restarted production," a source in Italy told Fastmarkets. "Alfa Acciai and Iro resumed deliveries to customers who have the opportunity to work due to urgency."
Trading activity in Italy was still very limited, however, as most of end users in the construction sector are not operating.
