EUROPE REBAR: Prices rise sharply in south, narrow in north

Bullish rebar suppliers in the south of Europe have pushed their prices upward on the firmness of scrap costs and a post-holiday pick-up in demand, while in the north of the region prices only narrowed upward following an increase last week, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday September 2.

Southern Europe
Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar), domestic, delivered Southern Europe, rose to ?,?445-450 ($532-538) per tonne on Wednesday, up from ?,?425-440 per tonne last week.
Italian producers increased their offer prices from this week, citing high rolling costs, sources said.
This week, steel rebar in Italy was being traded at ?,?410-415 per tonne ex-works. This was equivalent to about ?,?445-450 per tonne delivered, up by ?,?10-20 per tonne compared with last week, sources told Fastmarkets.
