EUROPE REBAR: Prices up in south, flat in north; buyers cautious

Domestic steel rebar prices moved up in the south of Europe on bullish offers from mills, while in the north of the region the market was largely flat with buyers cautious about the future trend, source told Fastmarkets on Wednesday January 20.

Southern Europe
Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar), domestic, delivered Southern Europe was ?,?615-630 ($745-763) per tonne on Wednesday, up by ?,?5-10 per tonne from ?,?610-620 per tonne last week. 
Italy
Italian producers increased their asking prices for rebar this week amid still tight availability, while buying activity was generally low due to seasonally slow construction and a recent downturn in the international scrap market.
"Turkish scrap started to decline last week and kept falling this week, we expect the scrap price to fall in the domestic market as well," one trader said.
