EUROPE SECTIONS: Market remains under pressure ahead of quota renewal

Prices for hollow steel sections in Europe continued to move down on Wednesday June 17, with feedstock prices continuing to fall ahead of the imminent renewal of the EU's import quotas, sources told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets' price assessment for steel sections (medium), domestic, delivered Northern Europe, was ?,?540-560($610-633) per tonne on Wednesday, down from ?,?550-560 per tonne a week earlier.
Domestic feedstock costs have dropped by more than ?,?80 per tonne since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the price of hot-rolled coil continuing to fall each week, adding pressure on to the weak hollow sections market.
