EUROPE SECTIONS: Prices jump as mills hunt for feedstock

Rising hollow section prices in Europe this week reflected the struggle mills are facing to source feedstock material amid an ongoing shortage, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday December 16.

Fastmarkets' price assessment for steel sections (medium), domestic, delivered Northern Europe was ?,?740-750 ($899-911) per tonne on Wednesday, up from ?,?700-720 per tonne a week earlier.
The availability of hot-rolled coil, the feedstock material for steel sections, remains in a shortage, with mills continually raising prices.

Fastmarkets' daily steel HRC index, domestic, exw Northern Europe was ?,?646 per tonne on December 16, up from ?,?603.33 per tonne on December 9, and compared with ?,?565.77 per tonne on December 2.
