EUROPE SECTIONS: Prices stable in thin trading conditions; eyes on EC safeguarding quotas

Domestic prices for hollow steel sections in both Northern and Southern Europe remained stable this week ahead of the Easter holiday when reduced trading is expected, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday April 17.

Fastmarkets' domestic price assessment for commodity-size, grade-S235 square hollow sections made in Northern Europe was unchanged week on week on Wednesday April 17 at ?,?630-640 ($712-723) per tonne delivered. Trading activity was reduced this week ahead of the European Easter holiday (April 19-22), and is expected to remain low next week when many market participants across Europe will take time off work. "I still believe prices will be flat for April. Demand is not that bad so the market is stable now," a distributor said. Costs for hot-rolled coil (HRC) feedstock also moved down during March and April, putting pressure on the prices for hollow sections.
