EUROPE WIRE ROD: Prices static in south, decline in north

Prices for steel mesh-quality wire rod were broadly stable in the south with Italian producers considering increases, while in the north of Europe prices declined slightly on thin trading, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday June 17

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel wire rod (mesh-quality), domestic, delivered Southern Europe was ?,?420-440 ($475-497) per tonne on Wednesday June 17, stable over the week.
Italy
The "workable" price for wire rod in Italy is said to be ?,?420 per tonne delivered this week, same as last week, sources said.
"Wire rod prices are the same as last week, nothing new at the moment, however, producers are targeting an increase of some ?,?10-20 per tonne," one source said.
It is not clear yet if the market is ready to accept higher prices, however, they added.

"Construction is running well, I would say we are approaching pre-pandemic levels, however, some companies are still experiencing payment issues and scrap prices have decreased - so I don't see any room for an increase...
