EUROPE WIRE ROD: Prices up in north, south; sources expect further rises

Steel mesh-quality wire rod prices went up over the past week on good demand, while bullish suppliers seem intent on further price increase in September citing higher feedstock costs and demand growth, Fastmarkets heard on August 26.

Southern Europe
Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel wire rod (mesh-quality), domestic, delivered Southern Europe increased to ?,?440-450 ($519-531) per tonne on August 26 from ?,?430-440 per tonne the week before.
In Italy, trading activity started to resume this week after a three-week long summer break.
Sources estimated the "workable" price for mesh-quality wire rod in Italy at ?,?435-440 per tonne delivered, up by ?,?5-10 per tonne compared to pre-holiday levels.
