EUROPE WIRE ROD: Southern EU mills drop prices ahead of summer slowdown

The price of mesh-quality wire rod in Southern Europe has fallen by ?,?10-30 ($11-34) per tonne week on week, because mills in Italy and Spain lowered their offers ahead of the summer slowdown, sources told Fastmarkets on Wednesday July 10.

Fastmarkets' assessment of the price of steel wire rod (mesh-quality), domestic, delivered Southern Europe, was ?,?470-500 ($527-560) per tonne on Wednesday, down week on week from ?,?500-510 per tonne on July 3.Italian mills were heard offering mesh-quality wire rod at ?,?470-480 per tonne delivered, while Spanish mill offers were heard closer to ?,?500 per tonne delivered, market participants said.Last week, market participants were expecting price stability over the summer holiday period, and that the material requirements of wire rod buyers...
