Samples from the Franz zone at Westhaven Gold's Shovelnose Property in British Columbia return assays as high as 51.1 g/t gold and 165 g/t silver, demonstrating "we are dealing with a large and robust mineralized system," the company states.

Westhaven Gold Corp. (WHN:TSX.V) announced in a news release that sampling of the newly discovered Franz zone at its Shovelnose project in British Columbia's Spences Bridge Gold Belt returned significant gold and silver assays.

The company obtained nine grab samples of outcrop and float from an east to west-oriented area, 50 meters by 12 meters-plus in size, over the Franz zone.

The result highlights are from the two westernmost outcrop samples, spaced 5 meters apart, V074705 and V074706. V074705 showed 51.1 grams per ton (51.1 g/t) gold and 165 g/t silver. V074706 returned 4.19 g/t gold and 52.5 g/t silver.

"This outcrop may represent the northwestward continuation of Vein zone 1, suggesting a total strike length of at least 3.7 kilometers (3.7 km) for the zone," Exploration Manager Peter Fischl said in the release. Drilling is needed to confirm the strike length.

Sample V074708 from float demonstrated 34.9 g/t gold and 120 g/t silver.

Overall, the results show that the Shovelnose mineralized system is not limited to the South zone, 2.8 km from Franz, but is, rather, large and robust, the company noted.

"The newly discovered Franz vein zone is located approximately ~2.8 kilometers from the high-grade gold discovery at the South Zone. This demonstrates we are dealing with a large and robust mineralized system and it is not just limited to the South Zone," President and CEO Gareth Thomas said in the release. "The Franz zone was discovered just over a week ago, so we don't yet know the extent, but this is the most significant mineralized zone discovered on surface at Shovelnose."
