(IDEX Online) - The price index for all sizes and intensities of fancy color diamonds rose slightly, by 0.3 per cent, in Q1 of this year, after two quarters of decline. Blues were up 0.5 per cent across the board, and pinks rose 0.4 per cent, according to the New York-based Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF). Yellows fell 0.2 per cent. No figures were produced for for Q1 and Q2 of 2020 because business was too slow during the Covid pandemic to provide sufficient data, but the market is now showing signs of recovery. In Q3 of 2020 the index fell by 0.7 per cent and in Q4 by 0.1 per cent.
"The first quarter of 2021 proved that fancy color diamond prices are resilient and on the rise across the board as things in the USA slowly go back to normal," said the FRCF in its quarterly update published today. It predicted a "continuous rise in prices".Prices across the fancy intense and fancy vivid segments rose 0.4%, while the fancy segment fell by 0.2 per cent.Prices for all sizes and intensities of fancy color pinks and yellows have remained largely flat since 2014 after five years of steady growth.
