Ferbasa reports fire at FeSi operations; production affected

Brazilian ferro-alloys producer Ferbasa has reported a fire at its plant in the country that it warned may affect ferro-silicon production for about eight days, the company said on its website on Tuesday November 3.

Ferbasa has the capacity to produce around 120,000 tonnes per year of ferro-silicon and sells its product domestically, while exporting alloy to the United States and Europe. The company also produces ferro-chrome.
"Ferbasa informs its shareholders and the market in general about a fire in the ferro-silicon production area at the metallurgy plant on Sunday, November 1, which damaged electrical power cables for auxiliary equipment and furnace control cables," the company said, adding that there were no casualties.
