Ferro-nickel discount refreshes historical low on growing NPI supply

The discount to the price of ferro-nickel in China has fallen to an all-time low amid building competition from Indonesian NPI supply and larger discounts assigned to quarterly contracts, Fastmarkets heard.

Fastmarkets' assessment for ferro-nickel with 26-32% nickel content, cif China fell to a discount of $1,800-2,000 per tonne on Monday January 27, refreshing last month's lowest level and down 58.3% from December 2019.
The assessment is now at its biggest discount since the launch of the assessment on January 25, 2016.
