Five New Covid Cases Keep Gahcho Kue Closed

(IDEX Online) - Health officials in Canada have confirmed that five new cases of COVID-19 are linked to the Gahcho Kue diamond mine.It brings the total number of cases to 15.  Three of those who contracted the virus have recovered, 12 are considered active.The site (pictured), jointly operated by De Beers and Mountain Province, halted operations on 6 February and there is currently no word on when work will resume.Some of the 335 workers are isolating in their rooms at the mine, in the tundra of the Northwest Territories (NWT).  Over 100 are isolating 175 miles away in Yellowknife and 95 who live further away have gone to their home provinces.An additional case in NWT is a passenger from Edmonton unrelated to the mine, said health officials.
