Will Fleckenstein headshotWill Fleckenstein, director of strategic relationships and enterprises for earth resource and environmental programs at Colorado School of Mines, was a featured speaker at the recent EnerCom Oil and Gas Conference in Denver.

Fleckenstein's talk was titled "Technology Trends - Will Costs Continue to Drop in Unconventionals?" In it, he made the case that technology development has precursors that predict success and future trends, with examples including the Wright Brothers invention of the powered airplane to a 2011 New York Times article noting the decoupling of oil and natural gas prices.

"The 'shale Cowboys' must be reborn as 'Digital Shale Cowboys' or perish," Fleckenstein said.
