Four more Brazilian automakers to temporarily stop output

The rapid increase in Covid-19 infections in Brazil, a shortage of auto parts and the decision by authorities to bring holidays forward prompted at least four more Brazilian automakers to suspend their production sites in the week to Friday March 26, Fastmarkets understands.

Renault, Daimler under its Mercedes-Benz brand, Nissan and Toyota are the latest manufacturers to announce a suspension of activities.
Volkswagen had already confirmed on March 19 it would stop output in Brazil for 12 days from March 24. Meanwhile, Scania will halt operations from March 26 to April 4, and Volvo has chosen to cut truck production from March 23 to the end of the month.
Renault said it will suspend activities at its Ayrton Senna facility in S??o Jos?(C) dos Pinhais, in the southern state of Paran??, from March 29 to April 1. It plans to resume output on April 5, after the Good Friday holiday.

"Renault do Brasil will suspend production... to contribute with social distancing... and in line with the metalworkers' union of Curitiba [the Paran?? capital]," the company said....
