Freeport's Cerro Verde back at 90% of 2019 operating capacity

US copper producer Freeport-McMoRan said its Cerro Verde copper mine in Peru is operating at around 90% of its 2019 annual average while it works to restore operations following restrictions imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The mine, in which Freeport owns a 53.56% stake, saw operating rates average 351,000 tonnes per day of ore during the third quarter, the company said.

Consolidated sales in the period were 214 million lb, or 97,000 tonnes, of copper, the company said in its third-quarter earnings statement released...
