GDP Update Highlights Data-Heavy Week

Retail earnings will remain in focus

Next week will be filled with plenty of economic updates, as the latest gross domestic product (GDP) data comes front and center. Wall Street will also sift through data on durable goods orders, international trade, and personal income and spending. As far as earnings, names like Ulta Beauty (ULTA) and Best Buy (BBY) will take center stage, as the retail sector will remain in focus

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

Durable goods orders data is on the docket for Monday, Aug. 26, as well as earnings from China stock BiliBili (BILI).

Tuesday, Aug. 27, will bring the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller home price index, and consumer confidence data. Autodesk (ADSK), Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE),J.M. Smucker (SJM), Momo (MOMO), and Veeva Systems (VEEV) will all step into the earnings confessional.

On Wednesday, Aug. 28, weekly crude inventories data is due, and San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly will deliver a speech after markets close. Earnings reports from Box (BOX), Coty (COTY), Five Below (FIVE), Guess? (GES), H&R Block (HRB), Nutanix (NTNX), Ollie's Bargain Outlet (OLLI), PVH (PVH), and Williams-Sonoma (WSM) are slated for release.

The preliminary second-quarter GDP estimate, as well as data on international trade and weekly jobless claims, will be released on Thursday, Aug. 29. Traders will also digest pending home sales, and the Fed's balance sheet. On the earnings front, Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF), Ambarella (AMBA), Best Buy, Burlington Stores (BURL), Dell (DELL), Dollar General (DG), Dollar Tree (DLTR), Marvell (MRVL), ULTA, and Workday (WDAY) will all report.

Personal income and spending data, the Chicago purchasing managers index (PMI), and consumer sentiment are on tap for Friday, Aug. 30. Earnings from Campbell Soup (CPB) and JinkoSolar Holding (JKS) will be revealed.
