RAPAPORT... The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will offer $2million in scholarship funds to aspiring students in 2019, it said Wednesday. Students interestedin its gemology and jewelry-manufacturing arts programs, distance-educationcourse and lab classes can apply for funding. "Scholarships are a very important part of ourmission-driven education programs, helping hundreds of students start oradvance their careers in the global gem and jewelry industry every year," said GIAvice president and chief academic officer Duncan Pay. "With scholarships,professional credentials, career services and an alumni network, GIA studentsare positioned for success." The GIA has awarded more than $10 million in scholarshipsover the past nine years, funded by the GIA Endowment Fund, as well as privatedonors.
