Glencore cuts 2020 cobalt, ferro-chrome production guidance on virus headwinds

Switzerland-based trader-producer Glencore has cut its production guidance for cobalt and ferro-chrome for 2020 in response to expected business interruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The company now expects to produce 26,000-30,000 tonnes of cobalt in 2020, down from guidance of 25,000-33,000 tonnes. Glencore had already earlier cut its cobalt production guidance for Katanga mine to 26,000 tonnes of cobalt contained in concentrates and hydroxides from 29,000 tonnes.

There were no material disruptions to Glencore's Katanga operations during the first quarter as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic despite some short-term lockdowns last month, but the subsidiary warned earlier last week that the mine "will likely be materially and adversely impacted if its operations are...
