Estimated global primary aluminium production fell by 3.2% month on month in September 2019, according to figures published by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) on Monday October 21.
Total worldwide primary aluminium output came to an estimated 50.1 million tonnes in September compared with around 53.3 million tonnes in August 2019. Depressed production figures were reported for all primary aluminium producing regions globally, the greatest decline being recorded for Oceania, which includes Australasia, Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. In this region, production fell by 4.2% over the period to 15.8 million tonnes. China, the world's largest aluminium producer, recorded an estimated month-on-month production decline of 3.2% to 28.8 million tonnes of refined material in September 2019 compared with 29.7 million tonnes in August 2018.
