Battery-grade lithium prices in China's domestic market continued to edge upward in the week ended Thursday August 5, while other global markets were steady with participants focused closely on the aftereffects of Pilbara Minerals' inaugural spodumene concentrate auction that attracted higher-than-expected bids.

At the same time, several producer sources, who claimed they had sold out of material during the most recent rush of buying, said they expected to make further gains in the coming weeks, once downstream buyers return for September cargoes.
Fastmarkets' assessment of the lithium carbonate 99.5% Li2CO3 min, battery grade, spot price range, ex-works domestic China rose to 92,000-96,000 yuan ($14,241-14,860) per tonne on Thursday, up by 1,000-2,000 yuan per tonne from 90,000-95,000 yuan per tonne one week ago.
