GLOBAL NICKEL WRAP: Chinese premiums hit 18-month high; steady in other regions

Chinese nickel full-plate premiums rose to an 18-month high in the week to Tuesday March 9 after an opening of the arbitrage window between London and Shanghai led to a pick-up in spot activity.

Chinese nickel full-plate premiums reached an 18-month high on Tuesday amid an open arbitrage window between London and Shanghai.
Fastmarkets' assessment of the nickel, min 99.8%, full plate premium, cif Shanghai was $150-170 per tonne on Tuesday, up by $40-50 per tonne from $100-130 per tonne a week earlier and at its highest since September 2019.
Fastmarkets' assessment of the nickel, min 99.8%, full plate premium, in-warehouse Shanghai was $190-200 per tonne on Tuesday, up by $70-90 per tonne from $100-130 per tonne a week earlier and also at its highest since September 2019.
This is the first time for the nickel arbitrage window has opened in 2021, market sources told Fastmarkets.
